What is fast charging and why you need it
These days we want everything to be quick and speedy, and the time it takes to charge our devices is no different. We all want our tech devices to charge asap so that we can use them whenever we want. And we all assume that plugging it into the wall is what will get the fastest charge. What if we told you that it is also dependent on your wall charger choice?
What is fast charging?
Most chargers have a standard output of 5 to 10 watts. A fast charger has provides an even higher output level depending on the specific fast charger.
How does fast charging work?
Watt output is measured by multiplying amperage, the amount of electricity flowing from the battery to device, and voltage, the strength of the electric current. Fast chargers will often have a higher amperage or voltage to increase the total watt output, increasing the power of the fast charger.
However, it is important to remember that regardless of how fast your charger can power devices, your mobile phone will only consume its maximum charging input. For example, even if your fast charger has an output of 25 watts, if your phone has a maximum input of 20 watts then it will only consume 20 watts. Therefore, it's important to optimise your fast charging by making sure your fast charger and phone have similar levels of power.
Benefits of fast charging
- Reduces charge time, meaning there's less time in between your work or TikTok sessions
- Helps people with low capacity batteries
- Even a few minutes of charging before leaving the home can help prevent your phone from dying while you're out
