Safety is priority: Introducing Apple’s iPhone 14's Car Crash Detection Feature
The new iPhone 14 models that were recently announced by Apple in their event called, “Far Out”, will include a new feature that will help you navigate a car crash situation.
Apple says that this car crash feature is designed to detect severe car crashes like front or side impact crashes, collison rollovers involving sedans, SUVs, minivans and other passenger cars. This feature is possible because the new iPhone 14 models are fitted with a dual-core accelerometer that is capable of detecting G forces. Working alongside this is a gyroscope, barometre, microphone and a GPS unit that can recognise sudden or unexpected changes in speed.
How this component will work is that if a car crash has been detected, either the phone or apple watch will display an alert and sound an alarm. The user can also call emergency services by simply swiping the Emergency Call slider on the iPhone or Apple watch. The alert will be up on for 10 seconds, and if no response is received, another 10 second countdown will begin. If still no response, the device will automatically call Emergency Services.
Apple says that this crash detection system utilises over one million hours of real-world driving and crash data to help recognise incidents when they happen. Even though this feature can detect car crashes, it cannot detect all of them.
