How does wireless charging work and what are the benefits?

These days, all of the newest phones are able to be wirelessly charged making our lives a lil bit easier. But you don't really think about how exactly the whole process magically works. Well here's a simple rundown on how this tech works.

What is wireless charging?

Wireless charging, also known as inductive charging, allows you to charge your devices such as your phone or earbuds by placing them on a mat or stand, getting rid of the inconveniences of using cables.

How does wireless charging work?

By having direct physical contact, it transfers energy via electromagnetic waves. In the wireless charger, there is a transmitter coil that sends out signals that is received by our phones, which have a receiver coil inside. When the 2 coils are aligned, the electromagnetic induction begins and charges your phone.

What are the benefits of wireless charging?

  1. No cords

This is maybe the most obvious benefit you can think of. If you have more than one device that needs charging, then you may have a bunch of cords all over the place. Well there's no more tangling cords, especially if you opt for a wireless charger that can charge multiple devices at once.

  1. Safer and more durable connection

Using a cord can open yourself to risk with electrical faults and corrosion. Not to mention, the daily plugging and unplugging can wear down the charging socket on your phone.

  1. Universal compatibility

One of the MOST annoying things about charging with cords is that your phone probably has a specific USB cable it can use. Like how Samsung uses a USB C cable and iPhones use a lightning cable. With wireless chargers, those problems disappear as all it requires is Qi compatibility, which is something all wireless charging phones have.

  1. Won't overheat your phone

Wireless chargers automatically stop charging your phone when it's fully charged, making it less likely to overheat your phone.
