How to Clean my AirPods / Earbuds
Your friend just asked if they can borrow your AirPods and the thought of horror crosses your mind. You have never cleaned them and know that there are little bits and pieces stuck inside from years of accumulating dirt, earwax and other debris. Save yourself the embarrassment and clean your AirPods once in a while! Not only will you not feel self conscious as you lend your earbuds to your friend, but cleaning your earbuds will extend the performance and life span of them and avoid getting yourself a nasty ear infection. We'll tell you how you can keep your earbuds clean and keep them in good condition.
What not to do
Do not use any kind of soap or think of running them under the water, as this will damage your AirPods.
Tips on Cleaning your AirPods / Earbuds
Things you'll need to clean your AirPods:
- Soft-bristled brush
- Microfibre cloth
- Rubbing alcohol
- Cotton swabs
Step 1: Remove the tips and clean them
If your AirPods or earbuds have detachable silicone tips, then gently detach them. If you see any debris in the silicone tips then gently brush them out with the cotton swabs. Then dip a clean cotton swab with rubbing alcohol or water and rub it on the outside of the ear tips.
Step 2: Brush the mesh
Use the soft-bristled brush and carefully and gently brush the mesh parts of your AirPods or earbuds. This will help get rid of any dirt or debris accumulation.
Step 3: Clean the Charging Case
There's no point cleaning your AirPods or earbuds if the charging case is also dirty. Wipe the outside of the case with a microfibre cloth and then use a cotton swab that has been dampened in rubbing alcohol/water to gently clean the inside of the charging case. Dry off any liquid excess.
